Work for a company that's going nowhere?...

This may seem familiar to anyone who's ever worked for a large company or corporation, especially one that changes things on a daily basis trying to "improve the process"...

The tribal wisdom of the Dakota Indians, passed down from generation to generation, says that when you discover you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount.
In modern corporate America however, a whole range of far more advanced strategies are often employed such as:

1) Buying a bigger whip

2) Changing riders

3) Threatening the horse with termination

4) Appointing a committee to study the horse

5) Arranging to visit other countries to see how others ride dead horses

6) Lowering the standards so that dead horses can be included

7) Re-classifying the dead horse as "living-impaired"

8) Hiring outside contractors to ride the dead horse

9) Harnessing several dead horses together to increase the speed

10)Providing additional funding and/or training to increase the dead horse’s performance

11) Doing a productivity study to see if lighter riders would improve the dead horse’s performance

12) Declaring that as the dead horse does not have to be fed, it is less costly, carries less overhead, and therefore contributes substantially more to the bottom line than do some other horses.

13) Re-writing the expected performance requirements for all horses.

14) Promoting the dead horse to a supervisory position.

SEVERAL of these practices have been employed by the company I work for... yet the dead horses are still being ridden into the ground...

W T, I love reading your comments, have tried to post before but without success. Hope to see you at Oaklawn in 2007, if you're not in School. jaydee

Hey Jaydee, yeah I've had a few people say it's hard to post on this site. I agree, it can be a pain... but it's nice to hear from folks like you :) Heck I don't have very many people reading my blog so it's nice to get a comment once in a blue moon!

I'm still going to try to get to Oaklawn this year. I know some people are making plans to be there the weekend of Mar 31... I'm trying to make it.

hey W T, I finally posted as anonomyous and it worked. I'll be there 3/31, several others are making reservations at the Carousel, before my wife passed away last April she and I went at least 3 times a year and she loved Oaklawn. I met friends on WebMd breast cancer friend to friend and now have made 4 trips to Fort Worth to see a friend I met through this forum. I am still active on the discussion board, they were very helpful to me during Mildred's 4 year battle. Have a great week now.

Wow, I didn't realize it lasted 4 years. That's good that you made some friends that can understand what both of you went through. And being active on the board I'm sure you're helpful to other people out there now.

Hang in there Jaydee, I know it's still tough for you.
